Patricia Walden

Patricia’s Story

Patricia Walden is respected worldwide as one of B.K.S. Iyengar’s most accomplished students and teachers.

Patricia helped establish the National Certification Committee for Iyengar Yoga in the United States and is the co-author of The Women’s Book of Yoga and Health and other books. She was named by Yoga Journal as one of “25 American yoga originals who are shaping yoga today.” Her DVDs, including Yoga for Beginners, were tremendously influential in the popularization of yoga worldwide, and she’s taught masterclasses, workshops, and teacher trainings internationally.

At Down Under School of Yoga, Patricia remains Dean of the Iyengar School, where her teaching has shaped generations of students and teachers. In honor of her 80th birthday and the extraordinary legacy of compassion, kindness, and intelligent teaching she has shared with thousands of students over more than 20 years at Down Under, the Patricia Walden Academic Scholarship, along with the Nadja Refaie Academic Scholarship, continues that legacy by supporting the next generation of yoga teachers.
